Her pale lips were bloodless and expressionless, the ever-steady tone of the machine next to the pale white bed continued its ceaseless drone, her face was lax and no movement flickered across the delicate features of her visage. The bleached nightgown she wore was sheer, but the cotton fabric blanket was pulled across her breasts and her right hand remain atop the blankets, the slender I.V. tube dripping a constant, milky liquid made no sound in the otherwise silent room. The tablet at the foot of the raised-bar bed read in neat, cursive writing that the patient had not awoken from the coma for two months; discussion for life-support was to be consulted with what living relatives she had. However, they could reach none. Her slender fingered hand, the finger clipped with the heart monitor, slowly, ever-so-slowly, began to twitch a slight movement. At the moment her finger moved, the heart monitor's steady, pacing drone increased in speed. As her hand slowly curled into a fist, the drone raised an octave, seeming to warn the coma-induced patient. Her body spasm'd and the monitor screamed, shrieking at the once-motionless corpse that writhed and strained against the mattress, before her mouth opened wide and she let out an ear-piercing scream that sent the doctors and nurses running in a panic.

Holding hands, two silhouttes emerged from an abandoned house, faces grim, distraught. The boy, blonde hair falling languidly over his pale green eyes, gripped the younger girl's hand tightly, her features an exact replica. " Charlie," she whispered, creamy eyes dialated with sadness, " Did we do the right thing?" The older boy looked down at her, mouth creased into a frown. " Marlie, we're going to be okay, you should know I won't let anything happen, alright?" he assured, brushing a bright lock of hair from her face. Something tugged at his heart... Would they be okay? He wasn't so sure. They continued down the street, only the glow of the illuminating lamps making the path clear.
